. FAQ .
Here you will find answers to frequently asked questions. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Will I have the chance to write with a quill?
Yes, definitely! Our calligraphy workshops will teach you the basics. We provide quills that we have cut to size for use. However, it takes a little practice, so we start with other writing utensils.
Do I need any artistic training to take part in the workshop?
No, all our courses are open to anyone who is curious, regardless of their level of prior training. If you are enthusiastic and patient enough to engage with medieval art, then you have come to the right place.
Do I need any prior knowledge of history to take part in the workshop?
No, because our courses are aimed at a broad audience. We provide all the background information on medieval bookmaking during the course and are happy to answer any questions.
Can I bring my own writing tools or materials?
Certainly, but our course is based on the materials we provide to all participants, which form the basis of our teachings.
Is it possible work as a vegan in the workshops?
Of course, the use of animal materials is not mandatory. We offer a wide range of material options for this in our workshops.
Can I bring something along for inspiration?
We'd love that! Whether it's a favourite poem for the calligraphy workshop or a medieval meme for book illumination, we welcome all ideas and will help you assess how they can be implemented in the course (or beyond).
Do I have to strictly copy historical designs in the workshop?
Not at all! Even though our materials and techniques are based on historical practices, the implementation is entirely up to you. We provide historical designs as inspiration, but the practical realization is literally in your own hands.
